What is the Community Compost Scheme?

The Community Compost Scheme was launched in March 2024, led by the community for the benefit of the community, it transforms unwanted community kitchen scrap and some garden waste materials into compost. This lively product then feeds the Windmill Community Garden, which in turn increases local soil fertility, helps wildlife, and produces fine crops.

Through funding by the Kent Community Foundation this scheme was launched, we will be running a string of different workshops throughout the year with the aim to educate and empower the local community.

“I am so happy to be bringing my compost to the community gardens, knowing that my scraps are contributing to the gardens, and being a part of the natural cycle.”
