What is the Community Roots Learning Programme?

The Community Roots Learning Programme will be a pilot project, which has been developed in response to our community consultations and local knowledge. Our aim is to offer a diverse, engaging and inspiring place of learning and wellbeing, guided by the local community.

By developing this programme, there will be a place in Dane Valley that local people can build a connection with, knowing there will always be something to join in with, be that gardening, permaculture, craft or many more exciting options to come. We will be striving for an offer. that is accessible, consistent in the support and atmosphere, and fun!

We will be offering support to those who express an interest in collaborating or developing their own workshop throughout the project, as well as 1:1 support available for learners who need it via recruiting volunteer learning buddies. (See our callout if you would like to help.)

This project has been funded by Thanet District Council as part of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, and we are extremely grateful to have this opportunity to collaborate with local facilitators and volunteers, to become a Community Hub for learning and wellbeing.

“ do more outdoors, because I'm sitting at home looking for work and
not finding work, getting out, meeting new people and socialising.”

Open Call for Learning Buddies and Programme Assistants!

Come and help us deliver the Windmill Community Gardens Community Roots Learning Programme! This Summer we will be launching a programme of learning and wellbeing opportunities for the local community, and we are looking for volunteers to assist with the sessions by supporting learners, and supporting facilitators.
There will be courses and workshops in all sorts of exciting things from gardening, to nature crafts, foraging to willow weaving. Volunteers will get to; enjoy hands-on experience with our team of local practitioners, learn while supporting us in providing accessible and inspirational sessions for the community, and have the opportunity to develop skills and progress on our facilitator roadmap.
Learning buddy: help those who need 1:1 support with things like note taking, information processing, translating, friendly support with concentration, among other support needs. Help us to develop and improve accessibility as we pilot our learning offer.
Programme assistant: help with setting up sessions, demonstrating practical learning, recording sessions and feedback via photographs, videos, note taking or audio recording. Help us to develop and improve our programme as we pilot our learning offer.
We will have sessions on different days of the week, with day workshops or longer courses involving 1 day per week over several weeks, so we are flexible with commitments.
If you are interested in developing skills in learning support, facilitating workshops, working in a fun and vibrant team, get in touch!
