Windmill Community Gardens Margate is a charity dedicated to delivering social, environmental, and health benefits by bringing people together to share skills and learn about growing food, cooking, and enjoying outdoor activities.
We focus on nature-friendly food growing to help build a fairer food system, protect the environment, and strengthen community ties through collaboration with individuals, organisations, and local businesses.
Beyond gardening, we celebrate the joy of nature—spotting damselflies, tasting golden raspberries, and exploring meadows, orchards, and forest gardens teeming with wildlife. Our vibrant beetroots, rhubarb, carrots, and salad crops thrive in no-dig vegetable beds, enriched by our community composting efforts.
Across our two sites our Market Garden on St Peter’s Footpath and Community Garden on Dane Valley Road, we learn and share regenerative growing techniques. Together, we grow, cook, and connect, increasing access to seasonal, chemical-free local food and creating spaces rich in both community and biodiversity.

Weekly Gardening Clubs
Our weekly gardening clubs are at the forefront of what we do and helps us to maintain a thriving garden and Market Garden all year round. Gardening club is open to all ages and skill levels to come together and get involved in sustainable gardening. Tasks are varied and can include seed sowing, harvesting for our market stall, or learning about our no-dig methods and composting systems. Each of our gardening clubs offer hands on experience that support wellbeing and shared learning.
Particpants of our gardening club help to maintain the garden, can participate in our workshops that help to promote sustainable growth and once a month attend our Market Garden where we grow produce for our weekly veg bag scheme.
Most important of all this group is a social space - somewhere to meet neighbours, learn new skills and make a positive impact on the community and environment.
