Become a Trustee

Windmill Community Gardens Margate is seeking to appoint a trustee with experience of sustainable income generation to join our board of trustees.

Our vision is:

“To deliver a variety of inclusive outdoor opportunities for people to come together to make a difference for themselves, others and for the environment.”

Our board of trustees is responsible for ensuring we fulfill our charitable purposes within financial and legal requirements whilst shaping our long term strategy. Trustees ensure we do our best work possible to support sustainable community food growing in Thanet and to work within our aims of community participation, environmental and financial sustainability, promoting the links between food, health, wellbeing and environment.

Our board of trustees is made up of people from the local community many of whom have experience of supporting others to enjoy the benefits of community food growing. We support equality and diversity and applications are particularly welcome from young people, people who are from black and minority ethnic communities, people with disabilities, people from the LGBTQ+ community and from people who have been historically excluded or under-recognised on boards.

Previous Board Committee experience is not a requirement and training will be provided.

The key tasks include:

To enable The Windmill Community Gardens Margate (WCGM) to deliver its charitable purpose by supporting development of a strong financial model including sustainable income generation opportunities

To oversee the development and implementation of a sustainable income generation strategy, allowing WCGM to cultivate and enhance both stakeholder and donor relationships

To promote sustainable income generation opportunities in line with WCGM’s vision, mission and values; to improve WCGM’s long term financial resilience.

To support enhanced visibility of WCGM with a variety of audiences in order to enable fulfillment of sustainable income generation objectives through fundraising campaigns.

Deploy knowledge and skills developed in fundraising or income generation at a strategic level and across a range of income generation and funding streams.

Monitoring performance and risk management to ensure appropriate stewardship of funds within charity regulatory and legal requirements.

Provide vision, direction and accountability in fulfilling WCGM’s charitable purpose.
