The Community Compost Scheme was launched in March 2024, led by the community for the benefit of the community, it transforms unwanted community kitchen scrap and some garden waste materials into compost. This lively product then feeds the Windmill Community Garden, which in turn increases local soil fertility, helps wildlife, and produces fine crops.

Through funding by the Kent Community Foundation this scheme was launched, we will be running a string of different workshops throughout the year with the aim to educate and empower the local community.

How does it work?

1.

You can start collecting your scraps at any time, we have containers onsite which we welcome you to collect or use a container that you already have at home.

2.

Save all your kitchen scraps, these can include: Fruit and Veg peelings and cores, Egg Shells, Coffee Grounds etc. Please DO NOT INCLUDE: Meat Scraps, Bones, Grease, Whole Eggs or Dairy Products.

Garden Waste: We welcome grass cuttings and some Leaf mulch.

3.

Bring along to our Community Garden site:

Windmill Community Gardens, Dane Valley Road, Margate, CT9 2SH.

Every:

Thursday, Friday and Saturday* from 10am-2pm

*except every fifth Saturday of the month

4.

Onsite, please speak with a member of our team who will direct you to where you should put your scraps, this will either be in our Ridan Composter or our 3 Bay Composting system.

Take your container home ready to collect some more scraps.
