Volunteer Hours

We value the important work that our volunteers do, and celebrate the time that they contribute to the gardens. Between May and December 2022 our volunteers contributed an incredible total of 2673 hours to helping our community and market garden thrive. Thank you!

As little or as much time as you can spare is so appreciated

We are always on the lookout for new volunteers to join our well established team.

We currently have the following roles to fill:

GARDEN HELPER: Do you have some gardening or horticulture knowledge? Can you help guide particpants in gardening tasks?

MARKET GARDEN HELPER: Would you like to learn about chemical free food growing, would you like to help our team with our weekly veg bag by sowing, planting and harvesting.

FAMILY GROUP HELPER: Are you someone who can engage children and families in diverse and interesting seasonal activities

When?

- Thursdays 9-4pm (Community & Market Gardens)
- Every Saturday 1 - 3pm
(Community Garden)
- Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Fridays by arrangement

“Volunteering at the Windmill Gardens gives me a chance to work outdoors and meet new people. Plus, it’s really good fun!”

Community Roots Learning Programme!

Open Call for Learning Buddies and Programme Assistants!
Come and help us deliver the Windmill Community Gardens Community Roots Learning Programme! This Summer we will be launching a programme of learning and wellbeing opportunities for the local community, and we are looking for volunteers to assist with the sessions by supporting learners, and supporting facilitators.
There will be courses and workshops in all sorts of exciting things from gardening, to nature crafts, foraging to willow weaving. Volunteers will get to; enjoy hands-on experience with our team of local practitioners, learn while supporting us in providing accessible and inspirational sessions for the community, and have the opportunity to develop skills and progress on our facilitator roadmap.
Learning buddy: help those who need 1:1 support with things like note taking, information processing, translating, friendly support with concentration, among other support needs. Help us to develop and improve accessibility as we pilot our learning offer.
Programme assistant: help with setting up sessions, demonstrating practical learning, recording sessions and feedback via photographs, videos, note taking or audio recording. Help us to develop and improve our programme as we pilot our learning offer.
We will have sessions on different days of the week, with day workshops or longer courses involving 1 day per week over several weeks, so we are flexible with commitments.
If you are interested in developing skills in learning support, facilitating workshops, working in a fun and vibrant team, get in touch!
